Country Cafe at Hill Farm to close this Sunday

The Country Cafe at Hill Farm Caravan Park in Sherfield English will close on Sunday 23 August after two and a half years of trading. Owners Vic, Liv and Danielle made the announcement on the cafe’s Facebook page earlier this week.

They said it was with a heavy heart that they had decided the cafe could not continue. “This is something we’ve been putting off for a long time, just hoping we can hang on a bit longer, but with this camping season quickly flying by it just won’t be possible to stay for another long winter.”

The business opened on 25 March 2024. It was founded by Vicky Betteridge and Livvy Parsons after they worked at the cafe inside Choice Plants, the Timsbury garden centre that closed after 34 years. Danielle later joined the team.

From the start the cafe offered traditional British food including ploughman’s lunches, scotch eggs and local cheeses. Ice creams, milkshakes and sorbets from nearby Michelmersh Manor Farm were added later.

In their statement the three thanked every customer who had visited, especially those who had supported them from the beginning.

They also acknowledged family and friends who had helped with shifts, decorating and last-minute runs. “We will leave with all the happy memories onto new adventures and thank you for being part of this one.”

The cafe sits on the caravan park in Branches Lane and has drawn both campers and local residents. The Hampshire Chronicle first reported the closure on 20 August.

No further comment has been given beyond the Facebook post. The final day of service is this Sunday.
