Christmas in Romsey
Romsey marked the start of the holiday season with its annual Christmas lights switch-on, held on 22 November 2025 in the town centre from 2pm until 8pm. Crowds gathered to watch the illuminations come alive, setting a cheerful tone amid the historic streets lined with independent shops and cafes.
The event featured live entertainment, market stalls, a visit from Father Christmas, treats, and the switch-on at 5pm, drawing families to enjoy the early winter evening.
The Winter Jewels Jewellery Exhibition opens from 26 November 2025 to 5 January 2026, daily from 10am to 4pm at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens. Visitors can browse handcrafted pieces inspired by nature, displayed among the arboretum’s collections of rare plants and trees.
The exhibition showcases local artisans’ work, with items ranging from delicate earrings to statement necklaces, all echoing the gardens’ botanical themes. It’s a chance to find unique gifts while wandering the grounds, where seasonal foliage adds to the appeal.
Light Up Trails at the same venue follows closely, running from 27 November 2025 to 3 January 2026, each evening from 4:30pm to 9:30pm.
This illuminated walk winds through the grounds, featuring colourful projections on ancient oaks and shimmering installations along paths. Music plays softly as you stroll a mile-long route, passing food stalls offering hot drinks and snacks.

New for 2025, the Enchanted trail introduces eight zones with lasers, strobes, and themed areas like Rhythm of Light and Seasons of Light projections. Festive options include street food, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and fire pit marshmallows, with pre-orders available online. Romsey Abbey hosts its Christmas Fair on 29 November 2025, from 10am to 2pm. The abbey fills with stalls selling homemade cakes, a bottle tombola, and toys for children. A new addition this year is the pre-loved Christmas partywear stall, where you can pick up affordable festive outfits. Paultons Park transforms for A Celebration of Christmas on selected dates: 6 to 7 December, 13 to 15 December, 19 to 24 December 2025, and 27 December 2025 to 3 January 2026, opening at 10am with rides closing at 4:30pm. The park becomes a winter wonderland, adorned with hundreds of lights and decorations.
Guests meet Santa in his grotto, receiving a gift as part of the entry, while seasonal shows and character meet-and-greets add to the fun.
Rides like gentle coasters and themed attractions operate amid festive music. Beyond the scheduled events, the grounds offer animal encounters and play areas, keeping energy levels high throughout the visit.
